The Working Families Party Criminal Justice Initiative is building progressive power to disrupt the central actors of mass incarceration, win decarceral solutions that support community safety, and grow a movement of committed activists in the process.
The Criminal Justice Initiative at the Working Families Party works in coalition with local and national organizations to identify and recruit outstanding District Attorneys, Sheriffs, and Judges who center decarceral policies in their platform, and provide support to community-led efforts to elect them.
Holding DA’s Accountable
Electing decarceral candidates and keeping them accountable to us is how we make the systemic change we demand. That’s why after winning elections, it is important to continue building power and maintaining momentum.
We need to make sure our candidates follow through on their promises, and cover them from “law and order” status quo’s inevitable attacks that always follow dramatic change to the system.
We’re building a grassroots movement of activists to:
Door knock, text and phone bank folks about races, attend an action or hearing, and/or help with campaign administration
Hold new elected officials accountable by running campaigns that protect key candidates from right-wing blowback
Build out the community based coalitions that will hold elected officials accountable
